Yesterday, it was revealed that beloved Australian electronic group and sample wizards The Avalanches would be releasing a remix of DMA’S’ The Glow single ‘Criminals’ within less than 24 hours.
As promised, that remix has now arrived, with the band maxing out the song into a 7-minute, dancefloor-ready rendition that retains the best elements of the original’s anthemic balladry while adding a ton of Avalanches’ signature flair.
‘Criminals’ was the last single DMA’S released from The Glow ahead of its release back in July, alongside favourites like ‘Silver’ and ‘Life Is a Game of Changing’. In our review of the album, we called The Glow “a moving genre-bending body of work that sees DMA’S explore new sounds without losing sight of who they are”.
Meanwhile, The Avalanches have been fairly active themselves this year. With last album Wildflower arriving in 2016 – over a decade and a half after the band’s classic 2000 debut Since I Left You – it looks like we hopefully won’t have to wait as long for a follow-up this time around.
Last month, the band released two singles – the Vashti Bunyan-sampling ‘Reflecting Light’ and ‘Wherever You Go’, which featured contributions from Jamie xx, Neneh Cherry and Sydney artist CLYPSO.
They marked the third and fourth singles from The Avalanches in 2020, following ‘We Will Always Love You’ with Blood Orange and ‘Running Red Lights’ with Rivers Cuomo and Pink Siifu.
