Listen To Weezer’s First New Song In Four Years, ‘Back To The Shack’

Weezer have toady unveiled Back To The Shack, the first single to be taken from their forthcoming album Everything Will Be Alright In The End. It’s the first new song from the Los Angeles group since 2010.

The self referential tune starts with frontman Rivers Cuomo singing the line, “Sorry guys, I didn’t realise that I needed you so much, I thought I’d get a new audience, I forgot that disco sucks” and even name checks frisbee-maestro/drummer Pat Wilson.

This is the first full taste the band have offered from the forthcoming record, following months of teases and short snippets of album tracks as part of their #WeezerWednesday webisodes. Earlier this month, Pat Wilson said Weezer’s new album will sound like a cross between their landmark 1996 album, Pinkerton, and their 1994 debut, known to fans as The Blue Album.

That sentiment is also echoed in the Back To The Shack chorus which features the lyrics, “Kick in the door, more hardcore, rocking out like it’s ’94.” It was also recently confirmed that Everything Will Be Alright In The End would reunite the band with former Cars frontman Ric Ocasek, who produced The Blue Album as well as 2001′s The Green Album.

According to a press release obtained by Rolling Stone, Everything Will Be Alright In The End is “organised thematically around three groups of songs” and “utilises that sound from the band’s earliest days to tell new stories in 2014.” The album is due for release this September.
