Unknown Mortal Orchestra have premiered their new single First World Problem, their first new release since last year’s acclaimed album Multi Love.
Frontman Ruban Nielson explained the song’s meaning in a press release, stating: “I think First World Problem is about modern love in a crumbling empire. The feeling that you’re trying to build your life and get what you need while a decadent world falls apart around you.”
The song kicks off with a blast of energetic horn lines, 90’s synths and Nile Rodgers-esque chinky percussive funk guitar, which are met by warm boppy disco bass and Nielson’s distinctive voice.
The band also recently covered the Grateful Dead’s Shakedown Street, featured on Day of the Dead, and will be performing this tune on Conan on June 7th.
