Little Red Head Up AFL Live Music Venture

Little Red will perform at the MCG this Friday (March 25) as part of a new initiative of live performances before AFL games.

Mess and Noise reports that the AFL’s organising body has been working with Music Victoria to allow live music to take place before the first four Friday night matches of the new season. The first is this Friday between Geelong and St Kilda and Melbourne rockers Little Red will play four songs before the oval ball action kicks off.

The program is called ‘Live At The G’ and other bands to perform in the coming weeks include emerging soul songstress Paris Wells (April 1, St Kilda vs Richmond), a mysterious “combined super-group” (April 8, Collingwood vs Carlton) and the AC/DC tribute band Airbourne (April 15, Richmond vs Collingwood).

Andrew Catterall, AFL General Manager Strategy and Marketing Manager, said ‘Live At The G’ was the result of Music Victoria’s Patrick Donovan and James Young, co-owner of Cherry Bar.

“We think that going to the footy and going to see live music are two of the cultural things that make Melbourne great,” said Catterall.

For those in NSW, we will just have to content ourselves with the glory days of rugby league when Tina Turner was the soundtrack to the Winfield Cup, as seen below. Watch for Benny Elias’ impish grin at 0.14:
