Last week, Lizzo announced ‘Rumors’, her first single in more than two years. It’s set to arrive this Friday, August 13th and Lizzo has now confirmed Cardi B will join her on the track.
The artists made the announcement via Instagram, where Lizzo posted a clip of herself FaceTiming Cardi. “Why you calling me so early?”asks a bemused Cardi. “It’s 9 o’clock in the morning.” Lizzo is her typically boisterous self.
Lizzo’s third album, Cuz I Love You, came out in April 2019. Along with being a mega-success in its own right, Cuz I Love You brought attention to the artist’s generous back catalogue. The singles ‘Good As Hell’ (2016) and ‘Truth Hurts’ (2017) both infiltrated the US Billboard Top 10 several years after their original release dates (‘Truth Hurts’ made it all the way to number one).
Lizzo was the most-nominated artist at the 2020 Grammy Awards where she took home gongs for Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Traditional R&B Performance.
The upcoming Cardi B collab certainly isn’t Lizzo’s first time working with a big name contemporary. She guested on Charli XCX’s ‘Blame it on Your Love’ from the latter’s Charli album, while Cuz I Love You included guest appearances from Missy Elliott and Gucci Mane.
