Strap in, because Aussie golden boy Flume has been working on new music with Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn.
Flume has been saying for years that he’d like to collaborate with Albarn — who’s also known for his time in Blur — and now it appears that dream has become a reality.
Speaking with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 today, Albarn revealed that he’s been working with Harley Edward Streten (AKA Flume) on a new (and still top-secret) Gorillaz project.
“I’ve been working with Flume,” Albarn mentioned during the chat, but didn’t give any further details about the collab — Music Feeds has reached out to Flume for those juicy deets.
That said, Albarn did mention a forthcoming Gorillaz song called ‘Hollywood’.
“I’ve got one definitely that I’d like to put out by the end of the year called ‘Hollywood’,” he said. “I’m singing on it. It could be interesting.”
News of Albarn’s Flume collab comes as Gorillaz unveil their new track ‘Garage Palace’, which features UK rapper Little Simz. Stream the new track below, alongside a snippet from Albarn’s Beats 1 interview.
Gorillaz released their latest album Humanz earlier this year, and Albarn has told Lowe that their next major project could arrive sooner than we think, comparing it to the band’s surprise 2010 digital-only album The Fall.
“It will be a more complete record than The Fall, but hopefully have that spontaneity,” he said.
Flume, meanwhile, teased new music in an interview with triple j in August, saying, “I’m currently working on a whole bunch of new ideas, bits and pieces.”
He’s also set to perform at Falls Festival and Field Day later this year.
