M.I.A. Releases ‘CanSeeCanDo’, Teases Next Album

M.I.A. has dropped a new song titled CanSeeCanDo and with it offered some indication of when we can expect more new music from her.

Over the weekend the English-Sri Lankan rapper tweeted a link to the song also writing, “to my hardcore fans hang in there summer is coming.” While it’s a vague statement it could mean that new M.I.A. music will be released in the northern hemisphere’s summer which will be winter here in Australia.

Originally M.I.A. tweeted that she would be releasing a track titled All My People. “IM UPLOADNG A SONG IN 30MINS ! 4 “ALL MY PEOPLE” ! CALLED ALL PEOPLE .I REFUSE TO BE BOXED BACK IN TIME . BLK/WHITE/MULTICOLR DO RIGHT,” she wrote.

She retracted that moments later, releasing CanSeeCanDo instead because she wanted to release All My People, “WHEN ALL MY PEOPLE ARE READY.”

The song’s Soundcloud description initially read, “DEMOCRACY CONVERSATIONS ! TAMILS ARE STILL WAITING ! AND NO MY BEATS ARE NOT BETTER WITHOUT MY POLITICX,” as reported by Consequence Of Sound. That has since been deleted and replaced with, “SMOKE AND JAZZ AND SAXOPHONE GONA GET MY SADE ON,” with M.I.A. offering no explanation as to why the first description was deleted.

It’s the first new music we’ve heard from her since her fourth album Matangi released in 2013.
