M.I.A. Releases Neon-Lit Music Video for ‘Y.A.L.A.’

Following the release of her fourth studio album Matangi earlier this month, English-Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A (Mathangi Arulpragasam) has released the music video for Y.A.L.A., the album’s fourth single. The video’s flashes of neon colour work off a colourless background as M.I.A. raps over the top. Watch the whole thing below, but keep in mind that it comes with an epilepsy warning.

Despite slow first-week sales for Matangi, the album has now topped the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Music Feeds writer Sarah Bella described the album as “completely schizophrenic and crazily self-assured”, and the video for Y.A.L.A. is testament to this.

Earlier this month Wikileaks founder Julian Assange deemed M.I.A. “the world’s finest megaphone for truth”, after video footage of him discussing M.I.A.’s courageousness was used to open her show in New York City.
