There’s some good news and some bad news for M.I.A fans. The British/Sri Lankan artist has dropped some info on her Twitter followers, revealing that her new album is finished.
Unfortunately, that’s where the positive news ended, as she went on to divulge that due to visa issues she won’t be able to promote the album in the USA at this stage, nor is it certain that it will even be released. “I am handing in my last LP to my American label this week. It’ll be up to them if it’s released. I don’t have visa 4 states to promote or spk!” she tweeted.
The wording of the tweet is also intriguing, and it’s not certain whether she meant that this will be the ‘last’ album she’ll ever record, or if she means ‘last’ as in most recent recording.

Given that M.I.A struggled to her a visa to record her second album Kala, she may not be granted one on this occasion either. Then, she was denied a visa due to her father Arul Pragasm’s connection as a former leader of Sri Lankan separatist group the Tamil Tigers.
She joked that she may have to revert to writing music for DJ Khaled and Selena Gomez if she’s to continue to have her music heard.

In the meantime, have a listen to M.I.A’s politically charged 2016 single Borders. We’re sure that the irony of its title and content in relation to her current situation isn’t lost on the British musician.
