Like that crazy old friend who comes back to town every few years and takes you on a complete blinder of a night out, Macaulay Culkin is doing stuff again and you’re probably going to want to go along for the ride.
Culkin has used a rare interview with The Guardian to spruik his one-time musical endeavour The Pizza Underground – a band inspired by the works of both The Velvet Underground and whoever invented Pizza and mushing the two together. After leaving the project on the backburner for some time, it seems he’s ready for seconds
“We have an album coming out, a vinyl pressing with a children’s choir, a symphony orchestra, we’re giving it away, our gift to the world.”
Does that seem like an odd response to anyone else? Culkin did shed some light into just WTF the whole deal was with the band, explaining, “It’s one of those good ideas you have when you’re drunk, and you wake up and forget about it.” Now with an album on the way, the band will be aiming for a sense of legitimacy, and thus “taking it to the end of the joke.”
You may remember some mumblings about the project back in 2014 when it kicked off, only to disappear one morning like some terrible parents and extended family that are too preoccupied with going on holiday. As the legend goes, the band was met with beer bottles and rocks upon making their live debut, calling off what was left of their tour due to a “cheesemergency” (oh GOD, it’s already so painful).
The rest of the interview is pretty bloody gripping with Culkin talking about existing in the third person, NOT doing $6000 of heroin a month and pretty much just being a normal kooky dude.
