Maddy Jane has delivered us an iconic Like A Version this morning. Up for triple j’s weekly segment, the Tasmanian artist served up a punk rock take on Natasha Bedingfield’s ‘Unwritten’.
Maddy Jane and Co slow down the 2004 single and highlight how hooky and infectious the original is. It’s a super charming cover full of really fun riffs, a half a cappella pre-chorus, and a sick display of Maddy Jane’s vocal ability.
We were blessed with an original as well, ‘Perfection’s a Thing and You’re It’. The single is taken from Maddy Jane’s latest album Not All Bad Or Good.
Chatting about the cover, Maddy talks about how positive the track is and needed at a time like this. She also shouts out Brae Fisher from Dear Seattle for the song selection.
“I have to give Brae a shoutout because he really wanted me to do this song in particular because it was kind of a song that we bonded over. So there you go Brae,” she said.
She even threw in some wholesome footage of her and the Dear Seattle crew having a singalong.
Recently, we recruited Maddy to write a love letter to a record. She wrote an ode to Courtney Barnett’s Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, have a read here.
