As the consequences of the allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse against Ryan Adams continue to unfurl, ex-wife Mandy Moore has opened up about her seven-year marriage to the singer, saying it was “an entirely unhealthy dynamic.”

Speaking to Marc Maron on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Moore says that what drew her to Adams initially due to his “lens on the world.”

“He made me feel worthy, it made me feel like I had value if I could be there for somebody else and serve their need,” she said.

But then, obviously, things took a turn.

“I was living my life for him,” she said.

“I felt like I was drowning. It was so untenable and unsustainable and it was so lonely. I was so sad. I was lonely with him.”

She also said that she essentially downplayed her career’s potential because Adams was so dependent, saying that she was taking on “little jobs” to cater for him.

“I couldn’t do my job,” she said, “because there was a constant stream of trying to pay attention to this person who needed me and wouldn’t let me do anything else.”

“It’s not like I completely stopped working. I would do things here or there, but it would become abundantly clear while I was working, things would completely fall apart at home.”

Adams was accused of sexual misconduct and abuse in an article by The New York Times by multiple women. Besides Moore, Phoebe Bridgers also spoke of his psychologically abusive behaviour and released a statement in the wake of the article’s publication. Adams’ upcoming album Big Colors has been shelved by his label, and he is currently the subject of an inquiry opened by the FBI investigating allegations that Adams was communicating with an underage girl.
