Back in August, Mashd N Kutcher producer Matt James revealed he was undergoing treatment for a type of blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. Now, he’s given fans an update, sharing that he’s feeling “positive and hopeful for the future”, despite initially being only given months to live.
In a press statement, James said he was “extremely grateful for everyone’s support”.

“I’ve been undergoing Chemo, Radiation, Physio, with side effects, broken bones & mentally navigating it all,” he shared. “It’s really bloody hard & no question the biggest fight of my life.”
The artist then went on to detail his physical and psychological journey, as well as announcing the arrival of a brand new feelgood Mashd N Kutcher bop dubbed ‘IT’S ALRIGHT’.
These are his words:
“Multiple Myeloma is named as such as it lives in the blood in multiple areas of the body. I went to Physio with arm & rib pain leading to scans revealing the bones broken, & a diagnosis that cancer had already spread to 80% of my blood giving me months to live.
The team at the PA Hospital wasted no time starting chemo, followed by more procedures with the goal of remission. There is no cure but it’s manageable with maintenance so we’re positive & hopeful for the future.
I’ve lost health, physical strength & time, but what I haven’t lost is OPPORTUNITY to make something good of this. I’ve gained resilience, drive & most importantly INSIGHT. I believe if life throws something like this at you, you can too. I’m focused on what I spend my time on & what my greater purpose is. I credit this to being surrounded with great people. My family has been beyond incredible, as are my close friends & business team. The MNK band have played some amazing shows in my absence, running with my creative & adding their performance flair. If there’s a live show near you get around it.
I’ve found strength in writing music I really care about which is exciting. Although I understand marketing / social media, being away from it for some time has reminded me that music always comes first. I’m happy to have finally found my ‘sound’ combining sampling from my love of hip hop, house music & a dash of disco. This has led me to finish a SONG we can now share with you.
