British experimental stars Massive Attack have announced their return to the live stage – via a collaboration with documentary maker Adam Curtis for the Manchester International Festival in July.
NME reports that the band will perform an eight-show residency with Curtis at The Mayfield Depot, a new venue created especially for the Massive Attack performance. The depot is situated in a half-derelict former train station that has been abandoned since 1986.
It’s not clear how many tickets are available for the shows, which are scheduled for July 4-7 and 10-13. The shows on July 6 and 13 have already sold out.
Curtis is best known for his three-part 2011 documentary series The Century of the Self – which he created for British TV. The series focused on the work of Sigmund Freud, Anna Freud and Edward Bernays and their influence on major corporations and governments. Designer Es Devlin and theatre industry figure Felix Barret are also said to be involved in the show.
The performances will be Massive Attack’s only appearances in the UK for 2013. More info on the event can be found at the Manchester International Festival’s official website.
