Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds has broken his leg in a motorcycle accident, just days after the band revealed they have finished recording their seventh studio album.
Hinds broadcast the bad news via Instagram, in a post that shows the guitarist in bed with a massive cast on his right leg, ~casting~ doubt over whether he’ll be able to play any shows on the band’s forthcoming US tour.
“Broke my fucking leg starting my motorcycle goddamnit,” Hinds said. “Sorry to all the shows I was about to play with gto and west and more and fiend without a face. lifes a bitch then you die. happy thanking!”
The accident occurred just days after Mastodon’s bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders said the band have completed their new album.
“We’ve got it in the bag,” Sanders told Metal Hammer, adding, “We’re just putting a timeline together of when and where. So that’s all coming together now. So 2017’s going to be an incredibly busy and fruitful year in the world of Mastodon.”
As for what the new record will sound like, Hinds said earlier this year that the record could actually be a double album, with one Bee Gees-sounding album written by him and the other written by his bandmates Sanders, Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor.
“My part is called Cold Dark Place — it has to do with a nasty breakup that I went through,” said Hinds at the time.
“I wrote some pretty dark, beautiful, spooky, funky, ethereal, melancholy music, which also sounds like the Bee Gees a little bit.”
