Today it has been announced that a new venue will be opening in East Brunswick by St Jerome’s owners, Jerome Borazio and Danny Rogers.
St Jerome’s was in Mebourne’s CBD on Caledonian Lane for over five years and sparked The Laneway Festival, which now operates in seven cities in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. It closed down in March 2009 to make room for developments to the neighbouring Myer, who was leasing the venue on a month by month basis.
The new venue, called The Resurrection, will be opening in August at 135 Lygon Street East Brunswick. Danny Rogers told Mess N Noise today that while the new venue isn’t trying to be St Jerome’s, it will “carry the spirit of that little hotbed of madness”.
“We’re going to be calling back a few old faces to greet you from behind the bar,” he went on to say, “and we’ll be having guest DJs programming a playlist of local and international artists. There’s a deck out the back, but the views will be different. So what we’re saying is that it won’t be the same, but it will be similar. We’ve taken all the best bits to create another clubhouse for you to all hang out at. For anyone who’s ever talked , laughed, kissed, fought, shagged, loved and cried with someone they met and hung out with at St Jerome’s – we hope you will join us to carry on the spirit of the place.”
