Bank Of Melbourne have announced that the Melbourne Music Bank song competition is returning for the second time, giving budding local artists a chance to kickstart their music careers.
So here’s the low-down. Melbourne Music Bank, which was set up by Bank Of Melbourne, are calling for solo artists and bands to submit an original song which is inspired by Melbourne itself (we’re thinking alleyway graffiti, nice cafes, AFL, that kind of thing).
What’s up for grabs? Two days of recording time at Melbourne’s legendary Sing Sing Studios, a music video shot by filmmaker Wilk, as well as live gigs, album artwork, 500 CDs, PR and marketing advice and the chance to have the submitted song used in a Bank of Melbourne advertising campaign.
Melbourne-based musician and ARIA Award winner Ella Hooper (pictured), is Melbourne Bank’s official ambassador, and knows that the prize on offer could well change the life of talented Melbourne artists.
“It’s so important that we encourage and celebrate our local talent, and this is exactly what this project is all about,” Hooper says. “I got my big break after being discovered at a local fete in Violet Town. It led to free studio time to record and now here I am today!”
Melbourne Music Bank’s song competition is open to all songwriters and musicians based in Victoria. Artists have until 7th September 2014 to submit their Melbourne-inspired piece. 12 finalists will then be shortlisted from the many entries, and a public vote will later shrink the field.
The four finalists will perform live at the Melbourne Recital Centre, where a panel of music experts will choose the lucky winner. Bank of Melbourne Chief Executive Scott Tanner says the bank are excited to run Melbourne Music Bank once again this year.
“Melbourne is undoubtedly Australia’s arts and culture capital,” Mr Tanner says. “Bank of Melbourne is delighted to help celebrate and support local music talent with this exciting program.”
