Melbourne’s Iconic Cherry Bar Is Moving From AC/DC Lane

Melbourne’s iconic and notorious Cherry Bar has long held its home on AC/DC Lane – for two decades to be exact. But now the bar will be finding a new home.

In a lengthy post on the venue’s Facebook page, co-owner and booker James Young revealed that the venue will be having its last day on AC/DC Lane on Sunday, 31st March.

“To preserve its long-term future Cherry Bar will MOVE from AC/DC Lane,” the post read. “Cherry Bar has not and will never be sold. It is my intention to take the name, the staff and the sticky carpet to a new Melbourne address with a long lease and a safe and secure future for live local music and late night rock n roll revelry.”

“Presently we are in serious negotiation with ten (yes, count them ten!) venues across Melbourne as we strive to find the exact “right place” to move Cherry to,” the post continued. “So, watch this space and never lose faith.”

“Cherry Bar will never die.”

Last year, the bar garnered huge publicity for their consideration of implementing a no-mobile-phone policy, which would prevent audiences at gigs from holding their phones up to film the band for prolonged periods of time.
