Melbourne’s The Gloom In The Corner Unleash Operatic New Metal Odyssey ‘The Jericho Protocol’

Melbourne heavy rising stars The Gloom In The Corner have returned with an ambitious and toweringly theatrical new addition to their sonic Cinematic Universe dubbed ‘The Jericho Protocol’.

Conceptualised as a prequel to their sophomore album Trinity, the new single fleshes out the story of the LP’s main character, Rachel Barker.

According to a press statement, the song’s lyrics tell the tale of Rachel’s time in “Heaven”: “A rehabilitation centre known as The Garden Hotel, made to help newcomers to the realm adjust to their new afterlife. Things begin to go horribly wrong when she discovers they have been killing her over and over again to reset her memories every time she fails the rehab process, leading to catastrophic events, and the destruction of the realm”.

“This is us at our writing peak — finding a balance between haunting and operatic melodies, and dimension-destroying breakdowns,” the band shares in a press statement.

The release of the new single also coincides with two new members joining the Gloom fold, with Jesse Abdurazak being welcomed as the band’s new guitarist and Joshua Clinch joining on drums.

To boot, ‘The Jericho Protocol’ is also set to be accompanied by a short-story dubbed A Reflection, A Thousand Deaths, penned by Gloom frontman Mikey Arthur and releasing this Wednesday, 29th May.

For now, you can take ‘The Jericho Protocol’ for a spin up above.
