Meredith Music Festival Secures Government Anti-Scalping Protection

Victoria’s Meredith Music Festival has secured increased anti-scalping protections from the Victorian Government, after being declared a major event.

The Andrews Labor Government has given Meredith new protection under the Major Events Act 2009, due to expected strong demand for tickets after the festival unveiled its 2018 lineup last week.

Under the legislation, it is illegal to re-sell tickets for more then 10 per cent of their original price, with penalties ranging from $806 to up to $483,500.

“Music lovers have the right to access tickets at a fair price,” says Victoria’s Minister for Tourism and Major Events, John Eren.

“By declaring Meredith Music Festival, we’re sending a clear message to ticket scalpers that their malicious practice will not be tolerated.

“We’ve now declared the AFL Final Series, Meredith Music Festival and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as major events, so more genuine fans are protected against ticket scalpers.”

The 28th edition of Meredith will return to the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre between Friday, 7th and Sunday, 9th December, with sets from the likes of American alt-rockers The Breeders, singer-songwriter Billy Bragg, dance icons The Presets and Animal Collective’s Panda Bear.
