Metallica‘s famously upfront and outspoken drummer Lars Ulrich has his sights set on Glastonbury Festival, saying his band is “ready to go” as soon as festival founder and career dairy farmer Michael Eavis gives the band the go-ahead.
Earlier this year, Eavis revealed that the three bands set to headline next year’s Glastonbury Festival, tickets for which came and went in record time, have been secured and that the acts will be three bands who have never played at Worthy Farm before.
Speaking to MTV, Ulrich revealed that the trash metal pioneers are eager to hit the festival’s hallowed Pyramid Stage, and while he feels chances of such an occurrence happening in the near-future are waining, he remains hopeful that he’ll get the call from Eavis soon.
“Every year there’s probably less chance of us doing it than the previous year, but it just looks like it would be a fun night out,” said Ulrich. “We’ve been fortunate enough to play every other festival on this planet numerous times, so Glastonbury is the only one that’s eluding us.”
“There’s such a vibe and it’s maybe the most quintessentially English festival,” Ulrich continued. “Everybody who goes there loves it and obviously Michael [Eavis] doesn’t need our help…but if he ever wants to get hold of us we’re in the Yellow Pages and ready to go!”
Metallica recently revealed that they are “itching” to start work on their next studio album, a follow-up to 2008’s Death Magnetic. The band hope to hit the studio to record their tenth full-length early next year, with frontman James Hetfield saying “We have tons of material to sift through.”
