We’ve all heard those rumours about satanic messages being secretly embedded into classic rock and metal records. Back in the day, before there was a Spotify for Jay Z to kill, a lot of kids used to while away the hours playing their favourite records backwards in an attempt to discover the demonic subliminal messages hidden therein.
But one man has taken that pastime to a whole new level by recording Metallica‘s chart-smasher Enter Sandman completely in reverse.
YouTube identity Rob Scallon has dubbed this month May-tallica and, in tribute to one of his favourite bands, has attempted an off-kilter cover of their biggest song.
Basically, the guitar pro recorded every single instrument (yep, including vocals) backwards, and then reversed the video, to bring you an upside-down, back-to-front cover of ‘Tallica’s Black Album hit.
The results are sufficiently creepy, weird, and head-scratchingly at odds with the accompanying skater punk-style video. It seems to us that this version song would be better suited to a clip of burning churches and goat sacrifices than foam noodle frolics and silly string. But, hey, we’re not complaining.
Weirder and creepier still is the version of the video forwards, as Scallon recorded it. To be perfectly frank, shit is wack. This guy could actually be the demon implanting backwards messages into songs. We’ll be sleeping with one eye open tonight.
