Perth dudes Methyl Ethel have taken triple j listeners back to 2002 with an understated, ethereal cover of Justin Timberlake‘s ultimate melancholic hit Cry Me A River.
Like A Version listeners were initially treated to some Seinfeld-related banter, with front-man Jake Webb dubbing Thom Stewart the ‘Kramer’ of the group for being too tall to live with the other band members. The atmosphere took on a more serious tone though, as they boys got into things, churning out an epic tribute to JT that suited Webb’s organic vocals and was tinged beautifully with the group’s psych-rock tenancies.
Following that, Methyl Ethel treated us to a necessary version of their huge 2015 hit Twilight Driving complete with a live sax solo. You can check out both performances below.
The band are on the lineup for Tasmania’s A Festival Called Panama from the 11th to 13th of March, on the bill for SXSW 2016 in Texas later in the month, and will be touring the country in April. Their debut album Oh Inhuman Spectacle is due for release in May.
