Michael Kiwanuka Playing Australian Churches & Cathedrals For Heavenly Sounds

UK soulful crooner Michael Kiwanuka has announced his very welcomed return to Australian shores. Kiwanuka will be performing for the burgeoning Heavenly Sounds throughout Aussie churches and cathedrals.

The name might seem familiar, and rightly so: Kiwanuka was recently here for Splendour in the Grass and sold-out a run of East Coast shows simultaneously. Home Again, the debut album from Kiwanuka, has seen him soar to international attention. Scoring BBC Sound of 2012 Artist, and only just missing out to winners alt-J (∆) for the Mercury Prize, his exploits have not gone unnoticed in his homeland.

But it’s Australia who’s fallen especially hard for his soul, funk and gospel sensibilities. With a unique sound falling in the happy medium between contemporary and timeless, we’ve demanded him back instantly for another round of shows. The Heavenly Sounds tour is a perfect companion for Kiwanuka, fast building a solid reputation since its 2011 inception.

Opening on the night will be fellow countryman Benjamin Francis Leftwich. Not unlike Damien Rice or Jose Gonzalez, Leftwich’s debut album Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm has undoubtedly pricked up ears all over the world. This will surely be one of the last chances to catch Leftwich in such an intimate setting.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, November 7th, and all shows will be all ages. Check out venues, address and dates below.
