Michelle Obama has shared volume 1 of her new playlist series, filled with music that inspired her new Spotify podcast.
“Excited to share with you a new Spotify playlist inspired by the first season of my new podcast,” wrote the former First Lady in a statement. “It’s filled with incredible new artists and a whole lot of Black Girl Magic. I hope you’ll give it a listen and follow some of these terrific musicians.”
It’s a great playlist, with the likes of Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, H.E.R., Teyana Taylor, Tierra Whack and Lianne La Havas all appearing on the 41-track mix.
It also boasts a couple local acts – Sampa the Great‘s ‘Freedom’ from last year’s excellent The Return, and ‘Friends’, a track taken from E^ST‘s 2018 EP Life Ain’t Always Roses both appear on the playlist.
Obama’s new podcast – appropriately titled The Michelle Obama Podcast – launched back in July and has featured discussions about protest, the coronavirus pandemic, the election and other relevant issues in this moment in time. Guests so far have included Barack Obama and journalist Michele Norris.
Earlier this year, Obama featured in a Netflix documentary titled Becoming, partially based around her 2018 memoir of the same name.
