Following the confirmation of The Rolling Stones headlining Glastonbury 2013, former guitarist Mick Taylor has expressed his interest in joining them for onstage at the festival for a reunion of sorts.
According to The Sun, Taylor hopes Mick Jagger and Keith Richards will ask him to continue to guest for the band, as he did at their anniversary shows in 2012, saying, “I really didn’t think they’d be touring again. But I hoped they’d want to recreate some of the music from my days in the band. It would be a big noise, I tell you.”
However, he expressed displeasure at the band’s choice of live material:
“The last time I saw them play live from the crowd was at Wembley Stadium 6 or 7 years ago and to me it seemed that they hardly played anything from the ’70s or indeed the ’60s.”
The news should be taken with a grain of salt – Mick Taylor was forced to cancel his Australian tour, scheduled for April, due to ill health. In fact, the guitarist has a bit of a rap for dropping out of shows on account of poor health so there’s always the chance that, even if he does get asked to perform, the doctor will say otherwise.
The Rolling Stones will be taking to the Glastonbury main stage for less than a tenth of their normal fee
, according to organiser Michael Eavis. They’ll also be announcing world tour dates this Thursday.
