The nominations for this year’s National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) have been announced today, celebrating a wide array of First Nations talent.
Today’s announcement of finalists is lead by Miiesha and Baker Boy, who are each nominated for three awards. Other finalists include the likes of Jessica Mauboy, Archie Roach, Thelma Plum, Mau Power, Briggs, Electric Fields and more.
In partnership with NITV, the awards will be broadcast at 7PM (AEST) on Saturday, 8th August across a variety of platforms, including NITV, Double J, National Indigenous Radio Service broadcasters, YouTube and social media. The night will be hosted by actor and director Elaine Crombie and comedian Steven Oliver.
The NIMAs will be live-streamed from Larrakia Country (Darwin), with artists joining in from around the country remotely to perform live, accept awards and join in the celebrations.
“What makes this year so exciting, is that we are able to involve and showcase many more of our First Nation artists & musicians through the virtual platform. To be able to connect regionally and remotely is extremely exciting,” commented Creative Director Ben Graetz.
