Watch: Miley Cyrus’ Full Video Of Nine Inch Nails Cover ‘On A Roll’ For ‘Black Mirror’

Just last night we reported that we were waiting on a new track from Miley Cyrus to drop, after receiving snippets throughout an episode of Black Mirror, entitled ‘Rachel, Jack And Ashley Too’. Cyrus appears in the episode as “A lonely teen [who] becomes obsessed with a robot doll based on her pop star idol, Ashley O,” according to Netflix.

Throughout the episode, Ashley O (Miley Cyrus) twists Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Head Like A Hole’ into ‘On A Roll’. Fans were so into it that Black Mirror confirmed we’d receive an official music video for ‘On A Roll’ and today it’s here.

The film clip isn’t very Miley Cyrus at all. Featuring Cyrus and a pack of backup dancers, there’s neon lights, high pony tails, and classic early 2000s pop shots and vibes. Snippets of the clip are featured throughout the Black Mirror episode.

The adaptation replaces Nine In Nails lyrics with sweetly positive ones: “Hey there, whoah-o, I’m on a roll/Riding so high, achieving my goals/I’m so stoked on ambition and verve/I’m gonna get what I deserve”.

Nine Inch Nails frontman, Trent Reznor is a fan too. Black Mirror‘s creator, Charlie Brooker said Reznor (who approved the adaptation), “Got it straight away”.

“He wanted to see the script and I got to re-write his lyrics in a chirpy way. I’m not the best lyricist in the world — in the first song she’s singing: ‘I’m stoked on ambition and verve’ instead of ‘You’re gonna get what you deserve’,” said Brooker.

Black Mirror’s co-creator, Annabel Jones said, “[Reznor] thought it was very funny… There are lots of dark concepts in the film and we just enjoy that sort of childish subversion of them.”
