Female rap titan Missy Elliot will release two new singles this coming weekend.
Elliot’s longtime collaborator Timbaland took to Twitter to spread the news, announcing that Elliot would be dropping the two tracks – which seem to be titled 9th Inning and Triple Threat – over the US Labour Day long weekend, which is celebrated with a public holiday on Monday, September 3. Check out the tweet at the bottom of the page.
Elliott has been working toward her seventh studio album – with a working title of Block Party – since around 2007, but it has been postponed numerous times due to health and personal dramas.
She revealed to People magazine last year that her main obstacle has been Graves’ disease – an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid gland.
“I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad – I couldn’t even use a pen,” she said.
The disease was discovered after Elliot underwent radiation therapy following a car crash. “My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. [But] you live with it for the rest of your life,” she said at the time.
Elliot will be performing at a concert with Nas and Timbaland in Miami on Saturday, so there’s a good chance she’ll play the new tracks live as part of that show.
