Lana Del Rey has received a barrage of love and hate for posing naked on the cover of the latest edition of GQ in the UK.
Twitter trolls were quick to criticise the Born to Die hitmaker, notably online magazine Jezabel, which described the cover as “internalized sexism.”
Popular website Hipster Runoff also went straight for the jugular, writing: “Lana Del Rey finally hits rock bottom, forced to pose naked”.
NME blogger Lucy Jones has also weighed in to the debate, questioning whether Del Rey “can still be taken seriously as a musician.”
On the other hand, Antiquiet have somewhat supported the shoot, saying it got the attention-seeking singer just what she was after.
“All her songs are about being pretty, and she’s not even as pretty as she thinks she is. But if she wants to trade the microphone for a pole, we’re going to applaud that decision,” the website’s writer SKWERL wrote.
And according to NineMSN, the singer received a flurry of supportive re-tweets when she tweeted the cover to her followers yesterday.
“OMFGG! FOLLOW ME! I LOVE YOU<3,” one fan wrote.
“Why can’t I trade Places with Lana delray [sic]?” another user posted.
Del Rey was named as the magazine’s woman of the year on Tuesday (September 4) and is pictured alongside Tinie Tempah, Robbie Williams, Mad Men actor John Slattery and James Corden on the magazine’s cover. All four blokes are in suits for the shoot.
