MONA FOMA have announced dates for their 2021 festival. Next year’s celebration of music and arts will take place across two weekends in January — one in Launceston and one in Hobart.
Obviously with festival announcements at the moment, punters are curious about the viability of the festivals. The 2021 instalment of MONA FOMA seems like it may have an all-Tasmanian lineup.
The festival’s curator, Brian Ritchie says the festival, “thrives on reinvention and we are compelled to do that big time in January 2021. One weekend in Launceston, and one weekend in Hobart, to spread the love. Great Tasmanian artists, unusual venues, and an irrepressible creativity.”
Alex Heroys, CEO of Destination Southern Tasmania says hosting the event across the two cities will allow more of the state’s punters to attend.
“We look forward to working with Mona and Visit Northern Tasmania to make this a truly Tasmanian festival. We expect this approach will boost the economies of both cities and assist visitors to explore more areas of our state,” said Heroys.
61 per cent of last year’s lineup featured Tasmanian artists already. The 2020 MONA FOMA lineup was solid by the way. It featured the likes of Paul Kelly, Orville Peck, and Flying Lotus.
MONA FOMA’s sister festival Dark MOFO was cancelled back in March ahead of its June dates due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The festival’s programming will be announced later this year and you can find the dates for the event below.
