Triple j have announced more nominees in more categories for the 2014 J Award, unveiling their shortlists for Unearthed Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year.
The six Unearthed hopefuls include Japanese Wallpaper, Meg Mac, Coin Banks, Airling, Ceres, and UV Boi. Meanwhile those up for the Music Video J Award are Sia, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Client Liaison, Hudson and Troop, and Chet Faker.
It’s already been a big year for Melbourne solo act Japanese Wallpaper, real name Gab Strum. The 17-year-old student took out this year’s Unearthed High behind single Breathe In. Brisbane’s Airling opened up Splendour In The Grass this year and released her debut EP Love Gracefully.
Perth rapper Coin Banks is soon to drop his debut EP Heads after single Think Of You was spinning high rotation on triple j. Soul popster Meg Mac was the winner of Unearthed’s Falls Music and Arts Festival competition. Brisbane UV boi continues to make a name for himself as a producer. Emo punk outfit Ceres put out their first record I Don’t Want To Be Anywhere.
Sia is up for the music vid J Award thanks to Chandelier, which she directed alongside Daniel Askill and has amassed a mind-blowing 300,000,000-plus views on YouTube. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard‘s clip for Hot Wax, Illy’s One For The City, Client Liaison‘s Free Of Fear, Hudson and Troop’s Frameless, and Chet Faker’s Talk Is Cheap fill out the Music Video of the Year nominees.
Also announced are the J Award contenders for Album Of The Year and the nominees for the inaugural Double J Artist of the Year. The J Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on triple j on Tuesday, 18th November.
