Morrissey And Staples Centre In Showdown Over Vegetarian Catering

Morrissey is set for a showdown with management at Los Angeles’ Staples Centre over the menu offerings during his forthcoming performance at the venue.

According to The Guardian, Morrissey, who is a proud vegetarian, asked for all venues on his current tour to refrain from selling meat products each night, which Staples Centre apparently agreed to.

“I don’t look upon it as a victory for me, but a victory for the animals,” Morrissey said at the time.

However, earlier this week, the venue seemed to do a backflip on their original statement, with General Manager Lee Zeidman saying that although they “respect Morrissey’s lifestyle”, both meat and vegetarian food options will be available on the evening of his concert. Only backstage catering will be solely vegetarian.

“As we have done in the past, we are happy to create a menu with a greater variety of vegetarian items for our guests who prefer these types of options,” Zeidman said.

The former lead singer of The Smiths has scoffed those claims, saying the venue is contractually obliged to follow his requests. And, those hoping to grab Maccas on the night of the show are going to be dissappointed too.

“Reports that the Staples Centre will not be 100% vegetarian on 1 March are playfully untrue,” he wrote on his Zine.

“Contractually, all McDonald’s vendors shall be closed down, and the only thing burning shall be my heart.”

Morrissey had to fend off reports that he was dead earlier this month after he was admitted to hospital for concussion, a bleeding ulcer, and Barrett’s esophagus.
