There are certain cities Morrissey won’t play and perhaps San Diego might be joining the list.
It all went down at Copley Symphony Hall. Morrissey was well on his way to closing the set. But before he could finish his encore performance of ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’ a number of fans rushed the stage.
As TMZ reports, one concertgoer appears to have delivered Moz a blow to the face. The assailant was quickly subdued by venue security but the ex-Smiths vocalist was shaken. He exited the stage and quickly called an end to the night’s performance. The artist also cancelled a meet-and-greet which was set to take place after the show.
The plot continues to thicken. Morrissey’s manager Peter Katsis has since contested statements that the artist was attacked. “Morrissey’s fans are not malicious,” he declares. “The fans were simply doing what they have been doing for almost 30 years. Trying anything they could do to jump onstage and touch him, or hug him.”
If Katsis is to be believed it was an act of love.
“The fan in question was certainly more aggressive in reaching out for him than most,” he continues, “so security had to do their job and subdue the fan. That’s all it was.”
Morrissey’s representative has also assured that no arrest was made in connection to this zealous if a misguided act of affection.

Going from the footage it is hard to tell whether it was with good or ill intent motivating how this stage crasher was acting.
Speculation can only be fuelled by the provocative artist’s controversial comments concerning #METOO and his promotion of allegedly racist merchandise. Then again, it isn’t too much of a stretch to attribute these actions to the cult-like devotion with which many treat the most hallowed of indie artists.
Morrisey’s remaining US tour dates remain unchanged.
