Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee Accuses Travis Scott Of “Ripping Off” His Stage Design

Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has accused rapper Travis Scott of “ripping off” his iconic stage production by using a 360° loop mechanism and a roller coaster-type rail at his recent ‘Astroworld’ shows.

Taking to Instagram to take issue with Scott’s stage design, Tommy Lee said, “Just found out this fucking idiot @travisscott or someone on his team ripped off the 360 AND The Crüecifly! WTF!! Get an original idea bro.”

In a further statement posted to his Instagram story, Lee wrote:

“To many people this probably isn’t a big deal. But as an artist, I specifically created the 360 and the Cruecifly for my shows. No one had put a roller coaster on stage before me. NO ONE.

“When you put all that time and effort into something and someone just jacks it from you, it’s not cool. Had he given me credit or paid homage it wouldn’t been a different story.

“Just like Kanye [West] stole his set design from Lorde’s show. We are artists. We pride ourselves on what we create. And for someone to just come along and take it for their own isn’t cool. Come up with ur own shit. That’s what an artist is supposed to do *autotune voice*.”

(Just FYI: Lorde’s stage designer has already shut down claims that Kanye West stole her stage design.)

In a statement to Pitchfork, a legal representative for Travis Scott responded by saying:

“Tommy didn’t invent the concept of a roller coaster on stage and there’s no legal basis for his accusatory outburst. The actual creator and owner of the system has granted Travis all rights to use that equipment to complement his original stage design.”

Travis Scott is yet to publicly comment.
