Motörhead‘s iconic rock anthem Ace Of Spades has been catapulted into the British Top Ten singles chart following the death of frontman Lemmy Kilmister.
According to NME, the Official Charts Company has the hard rock classic currently at No. 9 in the midweek charts, surpassing the song’s No. 15 peak when it was first released as a single in the UK in 1980.
Motörhead fans have launched a coordinated effort to try and boost the track to Number One in honour of Lem, setting up a Facebook page which has currently garnered over 29,000 likes.
They’re attempting to start a surge in sales to push the song to the very top by the end of the week, and hopefully knock off Justin Bieber who’s currently occupying both the Number One and Number Two positions on the chart with Love Yourself and Sorry, respectively.

“New Entry in at No. 9 on the Midweek Chart! So halfway through the buying week, and this is actually way better than we were expecting! Bieber is IN SIGHT,” the group wrote on Fb. “So let’s do each other a favor … buy another download from here (it’s a quid, that’s all), and click the ‘share’ below. Let’s make the LOUDEST No. 1 ever!”
Sadly, only sales from British-based companies will be counted towards the final tally, which is set to be revealed on Friday.
The only charting that the kickass rock stormer Ace Of Spades has received here in Australia is in the iTunes rock singles chart, where it’s currently sitting at Number 14.
Meanwhile, Lemmy’s longtime mate and musical collaborator Slash has recently covered the legendary dead man’s hand anthem in tribute to the fallen Motörhead frontman.
