Indie folksters Mumford & Sons are copping flak on social media after a photo was posted of the group hanging out with right-wing academic Jordan Peterson in their London studio.
Some fans (and non-fans) have described the photo — which was posted to Instagram by Peterson back in May, but has since resurfaced on Twitter — as “gross” and “unfortunate”, while others have latched onto finally having a reason to dislike the British four-piece.
Peterson is a Canadian professor of psychology who has previously come under fire for promoting the idea of ‘enforced monogamy’, claiming that violent attacks can occur when men do not have partners, and that society should work to make sure these men are married.
“He was angry at God because women were rejecting him,” Mr. Peterson told The New York Times about Alek Minassian, a man from Toronto who killed 10 people by driving a van down a busy street in April.
“The cure for that is enforced monogamy. That’s actually why monogamy emerges.”
The right-wing professor has also reportedly claimed that “the idea that women were oppressed throughout history is an appalling theory”, that white privilege is a “Marxist lie” and that feminists have “an unconscious wish for brutal male domination”.
Given some of the things Peterson has said in the past, Mumford & Sons have copped a bit of flak for taking part in the photo.
The band are yet to address the backlash, but you can read some of the posts from critics of the photo, below.

I can not stress enough how Jordan Peterson is a MISONGYNIST (saying it loud for the men in the back) who bases his sexist views on little to no evidence and Mumford & Sons smiling next to him means they probably are too

Condolences to everyone who is somehow just discovering today that Mumford + Sons sucks.

The notion that Jordan Peterson might be a Mumford & Sons fan and/or vice versa surprises me exactly 0%
