Murder Investigation Launched After Body Of Musician Cecilia Devine Found In NSW Dam

A murder investigation has been launched, after human remains found in a water treatment facility in the NSW Blue Mountains were positively ID’d as Australian singer Cecilia Devine.

The 41-year-old pop/soul/dance fusion musician went missing on the 5th September last year, with her body discovered in a Katoomba dam by Sydney Water Catchment Authority staff almost six months later.

Though the Newcastle musician’s cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed, police suspect foul play.

“[The body] had been there a fair while,” Detective Inspector Scott McAlpine said (via Newscorp).

“It’s a closed-off area, it’s not open to the public because it’s a catchment area for the Sydney water authority. Tourists wouldn’t probably go there as a matter of course.”

Devine released her solo debut album, Liberty, in 2017.

Her brother Nathan tells Newscorp she loved making music and was “probably way too easy going.”

“She just loved being part of the social life, that’s where she was devoted with her singing,” he says.

Anyone who may have information about Cecilia’s death should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
