British trio Muse are back in the studio working on the follow-up to 2015’s Drones.
Frontman Matt Bellamy posted an update to Instagram saying that they were, “back in the studio,” and also have a, “new song coming soon.”
It’s accompanied by a video of Bellamy on guitar in the studio.
Last month it was reported that Muse had knocked out three new songs at Air Studios in London, the same place where they recorded material for The 2nd Law, Drones and Absolution.
Bar the hum of a guitar, there’s no new music featured in their Instagram post but the last update Bellamy gave suggested they were going to strip it back for their eighth record.
“I feel like I say it every time with each album but I feel like it might be time to actually do something a bit more stripped down,” he said the the Q Awards last year (via NME).
The band have a number of live dates plotted for this year including a headline slot at Reading and Leeds. Hopefully they’ll use this platform to try out some new music on crowds.
