Muse have delayed the release of their upcoming new album The 2nd Law until the 1st of October for reasons unknown. One reason could be that The Killers would also be releasing their album on the same day (which was 17th September) or the more likely possibility that they will be going on an Olympic Games bender of epic proportions and will be in bed with a hangover for most of August and September.
So far we’ve heard a couple of tracks from the release. Survival and Unsustainable, together with the official album trailer, gave an insight into the album, which didn’t seem to meet the appetite of the salivating masses. First reactions were that it might be more towards being a dubstep album, a very different sound that you’d normally hear from the Brit rockers. The revelation in the months following that Skrillex was a major influence seemed to only pose further confusion over what we’ll end up with here.
Though the diehards have stayed true, you can’t judge an album based on bits and pieces anyway. Matt Bellamy explained the bizarre mix of soundscapes to NME, stating, “We’ve tried a bunch of new things, which the trailer gives a glimpse of. There’s only one song that’s like that. We’ve basically tried to do what Rage Against the Machine did with hip hop in the 1990s and taken a bit of the electronic world and dubstep and played it with real instruments. There’s only one track like that, the rest of it is very, very diverse.”
The album will now be out on 1st October, and marks a long-anticipated return of the band since 2009’s The Resistance; so check out the album art above, and the tracklistings below.
