Muse’s New Song Is The London 2012 Olympics Theme

More details have emerged about the debut of Muse‘s new single – and they’re pretty huge ones as well.

The band revealed on their website earlier this evening that the song – Survival – has been chosen as the official theme song for next month’s London 2012 Olympic Games.

In a statement on muse.mu, frontman Matt Bellamy said that the song was written “with the Olympics in mind. It’s about total conviction and pure determination to win. The song is also going to be played throughout the Games including when athletes enter the stadium, in the lead up to the medal ceremony and as the theme for all international TV coverage.”

However, it’s unlikely the band will get much of a financial windfall out of the track – Music Feeds revealed earlier today that acts performing at the Olympic Games won’t be getting paid by the London Organising Committee For The Olympic Games (LOCOG) for their performances.

Muse have been quite the musical London 2012 poster boys lately – last month thousands turned out to see them run with the Olympic Torch through their hometown of Teignmouth.

Survival will have its world premiere on Zane Lowe’s radio show on BBC Radio 1 at 7.30pm UK time. It will be available to download on iTunes and in Muse’s online store straight after that. Music Feeds will hunt down a stream of the song and whack it up for you as soon as we get a chance to do so.

Survival is also the first taste of Muse’s forthcoming sixth album – The 2nd Law – which is set to be released in September.
