My Chemical Romance – Breaking Up Or Fucking With Us?

With the dust still yet to settle on news that My Chemical Romance had decided to break up, fans have started digging deeper on the out-of-the-blue announcement and have uncovered a string of clues suggesting that rumours of My Chemical Romance’s demise have been greatly exaggerated and that the band aren’t breaking up… Well, not exactly.

Emos often prove themselves a force to be reckoned with in times of crisis and this situation is no different. The Music Network tipped us off to one proactive Reddit user who stumbled upon a twitlong from frontman Gerard Way’s wife, Lynz, who openly referred to future projects from the members who are all going to continue working. The language suggests they’re in it together, and something’s already in progress.

Singer-soungwriter Mat Devine has also lent credibility to the rumours, tweeting to MCR fans yesterday that, “When one door closes, another opens. Stand by,” almost word for word to the statement released by Gerard Way THIS MORNING, in which the singer explained that “with honor, integrity, closure, and on no-one’s terms but our own the door closes…and another opens.” The motif of both closing and opening doors is used heavily through out the whole post.

What’s more, Kerrang! editor James McMahon pointed out that Gerard Way tweeted a picture of Houdini, and also used one in his statement. McMahon notes that the picture is of a publicity stunt, adding, “Fits with rumours of MCR ‘escaping’ their record contract. On top of that, yesterday was Houdini’s birthday (March 24, 1874)…which could be a sign, a weird coincidence, or I may just be a paranoid stoner.

So let’s go back a bit there… As pointed out by the aforementioned Redditor, it has been a popular school of thought that MCR were under stress form their record label which has retained a serious amount of the bands rights.

On that note, its worth pointing out that Property Of Zach spoke to James Dewees of Get Up Kids who has confirmed he and ex-MCR member Frank Iero have started a new project.

This also begs the question, “Why would the band to this to their fans?” This wouldn’t be a publicity statement, it would be a deathwish. Heh.

Whilst Chorus.FM can’t confirm it, Property Of Zach seem awfully certain that the press release informing media of the break-up didn’t come from WMG, the band’s record label, but rather an independent source.

We’re currently working hard on backing that up and will hopefully have updates on the whole matter soon.
