Canadian folk rock legend Neil Young has been making a lot of headway in the online realm recently, but after Young’s official Twitter account was hacked and flooded with pornographic material over the weekend he might be treating the internet with a bit more caution.
According to Mashable, whoever hacked Young’s verified account tweeted various pornographic images, many of which were retweets of a prominent porn site. The tweets, which were made on the night of Friday, 6th June have since been deleted.
The hacker(s) also posted a number of expletive-laden tweets, added the hashtag #neilslayed to some of them, and changed Young’s Twitter display name to “SLUT FOR THE D”.
One tweet from the account appeared to confirm that the problem had been rectified. “Please disregard my last few tweets,” it read. “This account was hacked, but it has now been resolved and taken care of.”
Mashable note this tweet was then followed by more questionable pornographic posts. Another tweet posted using Young’s account accused two other Twitter users of being behind the hack.
John Hamm, CEO of the Young-backed PonoMusic, has since confirmed the hack to Mashable, and said that Young’s management have been in contact with Twitter, attempting to restore the account. Young’s Twitter page looks much cleaner now, so it appears as if they have succeeded.
Neil Young’s latest album, A Letter Home, was released in May this year. Check out album cut Needle Of Death, below.
