New Album Of Unreleased Prince Music To Drop Later This Year

Prepare your eardrums, Prince fans! A brand new album of never-before-heard music recorded by The Purple One is set to land this September.

Atom Factory, the company who now manage the artist’s Paisley Park estate, have cracked open the pop legend’s infamous vault — you know, the one that houses literally thousands of unreleased Prince demos — and pledged to gift us with a brand new LP of previously unheard original tunes.

“Prince recorded and rehearsed and performed constantly, and he taped everything, so once you think you’ve gotten close [to finding everything], you find new things,” Atom Factory CEO Troy Carter  tells Variety.

“The vault was just one room and that room ran over into multiple rooms… So we’re still in the process, and the fun part of my job is finding new things — every week I’m getting a new call about something special.”

Last week, to mark the two-year anniversary of Prince’s death, Carter shared the pop superstar’s previously unreleased studio version of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ (which went on to be recorded & released by Sinéad O’Connor in 1990).

The unnamed new album will be released on September 28th, while a memoir written by Prince himself is also scheduled for release later in the year (apparently the artist submitted over fifty handwritten pages to a publisher shortly before his death in 2016).

Meanwhile, just days after it was decided that no criminal charges would be filed over Prince’s fatal opioid overdose, the popstar’s family have now filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Illinois hospital that treated The Purple One a week before his death.

As Rolling Stone reports, they’re claiming that the hospital failed to appropriately investigate and treat Prince’s earlier overdose, which had a “direct and proximate cause” on his death a week later.
