Rumours of a possible new album have been filtering out of Blondie towers and gathering pace for a little while now, and now it seems the long wait is over for fans of the new-wave pioneers, with a new album entitled Panic Of The Girls confirmed for a September release.
This marks the band’s first album in eight years, their previous effort being 2003’s The Curse Of Blondie. The new record will feature a collaboration with Zach Condon of Beirut, as well as a cover of one of Condon’s songs, Sunday Smile. It will also feature new Blondie members Tommy Kessler and Katz-Bohen
Blondie have already released a track from the album, called Mother, along with a video to accompany it that pays tribute to one of the major hipster haunts of New York in the 90s, the West 14th St nightclub of the song’s title.
Panic Of The Girls is Blondie’s ninth studio album and is out on their own label. They recorded in Woodstock, New York and employed the production services of Jeff Saltzman and Kato Khandwala. A press release describes the new LP as one that “glances backward but resolutely moves forward, remaining keenly observant of street-level pop culture and continuing to find inspiration in the roiling musical melting pot of New York City.”
