New Mars Volta Album For Next Year?

The Mars Volta, in Australia for Splendour in the Grass and side shows, are apparently on the verge of releasing a new album, the follow-up to 2009’s acclaimed Octahedron.

Triple J reports that singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala confirmed the duo were gearing up to put out new material in an interview backstage at Splendour.

The album is tentatively planned to be released early next year, with Bixler-Zavala admitting to taking heavy influence from Nick Cave’s Grinderman.

The Texan band were in the news recently with fans enraged by record label Warner Bros’ apparent lack of haste to promote the new Volta album.
