The usual trend is for Australian bands, after they have achieved a healthy domestic following, to up sticks and try their luck by moving to London or the US. Cloud Control were the last to tread this well-worn path. It is rare, however, for a European artist with a dedicated and adoring fan base to leave it all and settle in Australia… but that is exactly what Sweden’s premier singer-songwriter Jens Lekman did a few years ago. Therefore it seems only right we should herald new material from the ex-pat 30-year-old from Gothenberg.
Line Of Best Fit reports on Lekman’s benefit show in London last week, where two new songs were given an airing. One of them, Waiting For Kirsten, tells the story of how after the actress Kirsten Dunst mentioned Lekman in a magazine interview, he feverishly tried to meet her. He joked, ”what is a suburban potato chips factory boy like me supposed to do when Kirsten comes to my home town except obsessively stalk her all night?”
Another new song Every Little Hair Knows Your Name was performed too, with the assumption being these two might end up on Jens’ follow-up to 2007’s acclaimed Night Falls Over Kortedala.
