Sydney dream popsters New Navy have announced their split, after four years of releasing music together.
The band took to their Facebook page to announce the news. “It is with incredible sadness today that we announce that we have decided to hang up our guitars and call it a day,” the post read.
While the band won’t be playing any more shows or writing any new music they note that their now-completed debut album will still be released “in the coming months”.
Along with the announcement the band shared a new track, Goodbye. It’s unknown if this was written after they decided to break up or whether they unknowingly foreshadowed their ultimate demise.
The three-piece rose to prominence with their single Zimbabwe which received heavy airplay on triple j, even cracking the Hottest 100 of 2011. They followed that up with their debut EP Uluwatu released via Future Classic in the same year.
The band returned from a hiatus last year with a new lineup and a more refined sound exemplified on the singles Heaven, Rosaline and Pelican. Read their full statement and hear new tune, Goodbye, below.
