A new boutique festival boasting a vast selection of international and local acts is reportedly set to debut on Victoria’s Phillip Island this New Year’s Eve. According to a report from Beat magazine, the as-yet-untitled festival will take over the the Phillip Island Circuit from 30th December to 1st January.
According to Beat, the boutique event is expected to draw 10,000 punters to Philip Island — formerly the home of the Pyramid Rock Festival — this New Year’s break. While details at the moment are scant, Beat has confirmed that the unnamed promoter of the event is “seasoned and well-trusted.”
While it’s too early to tell if this festival is associated with the promoters of Pyramid Rock, in a statement announcing Pyramid’s 2013 cancellation, promoters assured fans that while there were no guarantees, “options will be explored for the festival to return on a permanent basis in 2014.”
Pyramid 2013 was cancelled after “tough economic conditions in recent years” made the festival “unviable” for promoter Inversion Productions. “Their only option [was] to cancel the event,” read a statement. Pyramid was held on a farm at Ventnor on Phillip Island, running from 2004 to 2013.
Following the 2004 debut, the two-night camp-out festival quickly became a New Year’s celebrations staple for many Australians. Promoters were faced with troubles in 2009 when a storm forced the cancellation of headliners Empire Of The Sun, but Pyramid returned successfully in 2010.
