In a very cool move, Newcastle’s fresh festival Scene & Heard is doing a solid for drought-affected Aussie farmers.
Not only are organisers offering 100 grazers and croppers free tickets to their debut event to relieve some of the stress of the dry season with a day in the mosh, catching sets from Aussie legends like The Living End, Spiderbait, Something For Kate and Killing Heidi, they’ve also launched a fundraising initiative designed to help rural Aussies doing it tough.
As part of their Farmers Day Out initiative, Scene & Heard fest will also include donation tins at the event gates with all proceeds going to farmers’ charity Buy A Bale.
A statement from organisers reads:
“Newcastle is surrounded by an incredibly resilient rural community and in times of financial strain, leisure activities such as going to a live music event are put on the back burner for many. Studies have shown attending live music events can reduce stress levels. Festival Organisers hope A Farmers Day Out will provide a rare opportunity for some local farmers to get some much needed downtime.”

Farmers and rural workers can register for the online ballot HERE before the end of September. Recipients will be chosen at random with farmers notified in early October.
